Gaining Wisdom

“By three methods we may learn wisdom. First, by reflection, which is noblest. Second, by imitation, which is easiest and third by experience which is bitterest.” – Confucius

Of course, every day is a learning experience and if we follow Confucius’ tenets we should always be increasing our Wisdom, which is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise.

REFLECTION

As we enter this New Year with great expectations, I ask you all to reflect on what we have accomplished, what we have learned, who we have touched in a positive way and what we are most proud of. What I reflect upon is that since 2014, we have grown from 3 people to over 200 Spartans – incredible. We have also become an impact player within the world of Cybersecurity and Defense Intelligence – humbled. We have displayed a professional acumen which lights the path of others to follow and become shining examples to our peers, our families, and our competitors for doing the right thing – inspired. Finally, we continue to Defend the Gates of this great country of ours – patriots.  What this tells me that my reflection reveals a company which is wise and just and one we can all be proud of.

IMITATION

We have seen others try to emulate our approach and as the quote above says, imitation is the easiest way to gain wisdom. Their view is why do something differently if you see a company who is as successful as Invictus. From this second method, we should also take notice as someone out there always has a better way to do things…so let’s take advantage of that this year and look to see what others have done easier and successfully and let us be the ones to imitate.

EXPERIENCE

Finally experience, which is where most of my grey hair comes from. These past two years have been particularly tough, coming in second too many times and the constant variable of government reorganization, which is unfortunately what we are currently experiencing. That said, even the bitter pill of experience can make us better, as we establish our shield wall and overcome any adversity or any adversary thrown in our path for We Are the Unconquered.

As a final thought, I am thankful for having met and hopefully influenced all Invictus Spartans both past and present in a positive way. My view is that once you are family, you are always family, and my promise is to support all the Unconquered in whatever manner I can for as long as I live. I must say that I am so proud to be a part of Invictus and the dedicated professionals who day after day relentlessly focus on what is truly important — the Mission.

The ancient quote speaks volumes…let us heed its message!

God Bless and Remain Unconquered,
Jim
